Wow! I just got my copy of GAL's Big Red Book volume 4. I'm working my way through it now. If I would have known that these books where this great I would have ordered the first 3. Now I'm think I should get them before they start to go out of print. Definitly worth the 40 dollars.

Haven't seen the new one yet. I have the other three, as well as their books on "Lutherie Tools" and the one on woods. They are very good. Ron |

Sorry for not posting their full name. Its The Big Red Book Of American Lutherie. They are Published buy the Guild of American Lutherie. Nice hardback covered with over 500 pages. |

If you join up with the GAL you can order the Big Red Books when they come off the press and theyre a bit cheaper. The Guild of American Luthiers is a great organisation...they let you join even if youre not an American! Cheers |

I have the two smaller books which are great.I haven't heard any reveiws on the Big Red books until now.Any more details on them?? |

Yes the one I got covers all the article that where published in the American Lutherie quarterly magazine from the years 94-96. The other 3 cover 85-87,88-90,91-93. They cover all the issues from 1 thru 48 which are not available in print anymore. I have been trying to get some of these back issue through ebay and the likes. But its a lot cheaper to get these books at $40 then to pay for them individualy. They are over 500 pages long. Now thats a lot of info. If You like reading the GAL quarterly you will not be disapointed. |

Mattia[/QUOTE] Mattia, Stewmac don't have Red Book No 4 listed on their website. I got mine from GAL for $51 US including postage. Books 1 to 3 are currently listed at Stewmacs for $US 59.56 not including postage (about $30US to me here in Australia). On the GAL website All Red Books are currently priced at $US40 for members and $45 for non members. Postage varying from $US20 to $US22. Cheaper for me to buy from GAL and even cheaper being a member. |

Interesting...that wasn't the case when I ordered my BRB volume III a year and a bit ago (and yes, I was a GAL member). Possibly also because I needed to order stuff from StewMac anyway. |

Even if thats the case I couldnt see Book No 4 listed and by the time freight to Australia (Aus$46.11 cheapest rate) has been added its cheaper for me to buy from GAL. |

I figure Gal publishes the book I might as well get it from them. 40 dollars aint a bad price. That way they make more profit from you purchasing it from them then they would after spliting profit with stew mac. Nothing against stew mac I just figue GAL does a fine job and offers fine material and that we should show them our support by buying from them. |
